Mersea Island is the most easterly inhabited island within the United Kingdom just off the coast of the county of Essex and about 9 miles out of Colchester. Its a strange place, and this is because it spends most of its time as an independent country whilst the tide is covering the only means of access to it via a small bridge. Due to the difficulty of getting onto the island the roads which used to lead to it are now out of use and un accessible by vehicles. Many attempts have been made to navigate the lost roads to Mersea to once again visit some of the best crabbing spots in the country but all have ended in vain, often with multiple casualties being reported due to explorers venturing out into the Army Garrison Training course which is located close to the ancient road relics and signs.
The name Mersea is derived from the Old English meresig meaning 'Island of the pool' with the island hosting
a population of approximately twenty four people. It has recently come to media attention along with other famous historians and credited archeologist's that Mersea Island could in fact be the lost city of Atlantis. The photo to my left was the last image taken of the Island before contact was lost with the United Kingdom. The first major concern for the British people and Government when contact was lost with Mersea Island was the damage that the music scene would have to endure. The Island had been producing some of the countries finest acts and with the next euro vision song contest rapidly approaching much hope had been placed upon a young act named Matthew Birch to bring glory back to the United Kingdom. Unfortunately Birch is also missing with the entire Island of Mersea along with other famous musical acts such as After the Fire, solo country artist Steve Travis and also Dave Spicer one of the finest guitarists since Jimi Hendrix. The biggest loss however was the popular progressive rock band Yes who were playing at an East Mersea Youth Camp for the disabled when contact was lost. The united Kingdom's musical royalty was lost in one foul swoop, and Prog rock was never the same again.

No one has ever been able to summarize a logical reason as to why the Island of Mersea disappeared . Many key scientists believed after watching the film clover field that there was a significant chance that perhaps a giant creature from the sea/another planet could have wiped the Island of the face of the Earth, but there was indeed a lack of supporting evidence to back this proposed idea up. The search remains ongoing funded by the international association for the revival of Prog Rock who believe that if Mersea is somehow discovered then the band Yes will be unleashed upon the world once more and Prog rock will dominate the charts again. I leave you now with some of the last remaining footage of the Island.
